I had the privilege of designing the poster for Shortcuts, an event where local graphic designers come together to combat in a variety of creative battles, including in Photoshop and Illustrator. The challenge of this was incorporating the theme of the event, wrestling and battling, with what the event really is – graphic design.

I struggled to combine these two concepts, but eventually found the most effective way would be to use a hand-rendered, grungy illustration of wrestlers that had a variety of design-related tools, words, and more incorporated throughout it. As I worked on this poster, I became concerned that it would become too grungy and wouldn’t represent the event properly, so I used the style of typography to tie it back to the modern-design feel of the event.
